Cairns Adventure Activities

Does walking and strolling around different places in Cairns make you bored? Are you an adventurous type of person? If you are, then why not try one out of these Cairns adventure activities:

1.       Helifishing

Why spend days and days of travelling on a 4-wheel drive to remote places when you can get to your destination in just hours?

Intrigued? If you happen to love fishing and want to discover places where no other people have, then join a helifishing safari. You can explore different places for 3 days or even more. Get the chance to see jungle streams where mangrove jacks, barramundi and Saratoga exist.

The number of places you can explore are endless. With helifishing safaris, tourists and locals are given a whole new level experience of fishing that only some people can dream of.

Imagine yourself dropping a fishing line into a stream of water where no boat has ever been. The best thing of it all – you get to catch a variety of fish which you have never ever caught before if you’re lucky.

Apart from catching different types of fish, you have the chance to view beautiful scenery, and enjoy the magnificent and luscious greenery of the Australian outback.

        2.     Rapids Kayaking

Are you tired of doing sea kayaking? Is it giving you sore muscles? How about white water rafting? Is it too difficult to maneuver an inflatable boat? If yes, then you need to try rapids kayaking.

Far North Queensland has a lot of places where you can enjoy a fun-filled adventure going rapids kayaking. There are a lot of rivers to choose from and you can easily hire kayaks if you need to.

If you want to be on the safer side but still enjoy the experience, Mulgrave River is the perfect place to do it. Start your adventure at Goldsborough Valley and then finish it off at Greenpark found in Gordonvale. It will take approximately one day to kayak using this route. However, the length of time to do this activity will depend on the amount of recent rainfall. Other rivers that you want to explore are Barron (easy), Johnstone, Mossman, and Tully (the most difficult).

For your safety, it is best to ask and inquire from your local guides as to the condition of the river you want to explore.

        3. 4-Wheel Drive Touring

The northern part of Queensland is a tropical haven where you can find exotic trees, plants and animals surrounded with magnificent landscape. Much of far north Queensland is untouched and undeveloped providing nothing but the best tracks perfect for outdoor activities such as camping, trekking and fishing.

There is only one way to get into these beautiful spots and that is by driving a 4WD. Whether you own it or have a guided tour, it does not matter the scenery is so beautiful. Your driving skills will be put to test as you travel along hundreds and hundreds of tracks that vary in length.

The track from Cairns to Cape York is considered as one of the most famous tracks. A round trip will take around 4 days at least. You will be involved in different sorts of activities such as camping, swimming at remote beaches and rivers, fishing and tough 4-wheel driving. When you run out of supplies, you don’t have to worry. You will pass along the way three different towns to get supplies from namely: Coen, Cooktown and Weipa.

When you go on 4-wheel drive tour, please remember to travel on the marked tracks and be careful as you drive. Also, bring along all your rubbish when you go back home.
